Jake R. Coker, age 79, of Biloxi, MS, died Sunday, March 4, 2012. Originally from Habersham, GA, he retired in Biloxi on June 14, 1974, at Keesler AFB after a twenty-three year career as a dedicated and decorated Master Sergeant (MSgt) in the United States Air Force. He worked in medical supply with tours of duty in Japan, Greenland, California, Alabama, Texas, Colorado, Alaska and ending in Biloxi, Mississippi. His second career as a real estate agent began the day after he retired from the Air Force at Bailey Homes, one of the leading real estate companies on the Mississippi Gulf Coast. It gave him great pleasure to help people. He was awarded Top Salesman honors for numerous years in a row until health problems resulted in his retirement. Jake was known for his love of people and having a great sense of humor. He also loved cars and enjoyed going to see all the classic cars during the annual Crusin' the Coast.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Phillip and Mittie Coker; siblings, Francine Coker, Owen ""Reuben"" Coker, Lloyd Coker, Ford Coker, and Kathleen ""Kay"" Coker Lailer; and grandson, Scott Bradley Coker. He was a loving and dedicated husband and father. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, also a Georgia native, Jessie L. Coker, of Biloxi. He is also survived by his daughter, Kay Coker Dunn, of Biloxi, and Sam Coker, of Madison, AL. He is survived by six grandchildren, Rachel Holmes, Jessica Dunn and Hannah Dunn, of Biloxi and Jennifer Coker, Kellie Coker, and Michael Coker, of Madison, AL.
Visitation will be at RIEMANN FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, 274 Beauvoir Road in Biloxi, from 2:00-3:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 11, 2012, with the funeral beginning at 3:00 p.m. A reception will be held also at the Funeral Home immediately following the funeral, hosted by Biloxi First United Methodist Church. Interment with Full Military Honors will be held on Monday, March 12, at 10 a.m. at the National Cemetery in Biloxi, for the family and invited guests.
