Jack Patton

d. March 23, 2019

Jack McCall Patton, age 83, left this earthly life after a brief illness, and walked into the loving arms of his Savior on Saturday, March 23, 2019.
Mr. Patton was a 1955 graduate of Gulfport High School, where he excelled as a member of the Commodores Baseball Team before continuing his education and his baseball career at Perkinston Junior College.
In 1957, at the First United Methodist Church in Gulfport, Mr. Patton married the love of his life, Esther Ann Rowell.  Their marriage was marked by constant companionship, an undeniable sense of humor, and undying devotion to their sons.  When asked how long he and Esther had been married, Mr. Patton would always reply, "fifty-two years, nine months, and ten days."
Mr. Patton entered a 36 year career with the State Tax Commission as a Special Agent.  Known for his willingness to help people understand the tax laws, but remaining steadfast on enforcing the law, Mr. Patton endeared himself to many while earning a reputation as a fair minded agent.
Always supporting his sons, Mr. Patton was heavily involved in activities outside of his vocation.  Many young boys were given a positive role model, as Mr. Patton coached them in various sports, including baseball, football, basketball, and boxing.  Sports always held a place in his heart.  He was a member of the Gulfport Shippers semi-pro baseball team, a founding member of the Gulf Coast Umpires Association, and a coach in Dixie Youth, Babe Ruth, and Senior Babe Ruth baseball.  From the late 1970's, through the late 1980's, Mr. Patton served as an officer of the Long Beach High School Diamond Club and Gridiron Club.
Mr. Patton never met a stranger, always had a joke that would bring a smile to your face, and offered to help anyone in need.  His unconditional love for his family was evident to all and was an inspiration and shining example to his sons, grandsons, and great grandchildren.  Whether you called him Mr. Patton, Coach Patton, Mr. Jack, Dad, Papaw, or Pappaw Jack, Jack M. Patton was a fine example of what a man should be.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Esther Rowell Patton; his parents, Orbie and Alma Patton; 2 brothers, Orbie Patton, Jr. and Bobby Patton; a sister, Margie Dyer; and a nephew, Mike Dodson.
Survivors include his sons, Jack M. "Mac" Patton, Jr. (Sonjia), and David Patton (Diana); 2 grandchildren, Joshua Michael Patton and TSgt Jonathan Phillip Patton (Kim); 4 great-grandchildren, Zed, Bella, Zoe, and Zaiden; and other relatives and friends.
