Jack D. Gambrell, Sr., age 78, of Waveland, died Friday, January 15, 2010 at the USA Medical Center in Mobile. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather and will be greatly missed.
Mr. Gambrell was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, retiring after 20 years as a Chief Petty Officer. He served in the Vietnam War. He later retired from Dick Dyer & Associates (Mercedes-Benz) in Columbia, South Carolina, and he was a member of the St. Alphonsus Catholic Church in Ocean Springs.
Mr. Gambrell was preceded in death by his parents, Alton and Kathleen Gambrell; brothers, Rex and Buddy Gambrell; and his sister, Ruby Jones.
Survivors include his wife, Marilyn M. Gambrell; his son, Jack D. Gambrell, Jr. and his wife Janet; his daughter, Karen St. Mars and her husband Larry; grandchildren, Tamara St. Mars Price and husband Randy, Ryan Gambrell, Ashley Gambrell and Vanessa St. Mars; great-grandchildren, Mackenzie Lee Price and Savannah Dawn Price; and one sister, Nancy Ott and husband Fred.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, January 20, 2010 at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church, 502 Jackson Avenue, Ocean Springs, where friends may visit 30 minutes prior. Burial with military honors will follow at the National Cemetery in Biloxi.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Alphonsus Catholic Church.
