Jack W. Dowdy, 86, of Long Beach, MS died Sunday, September 7, 2008 in Long Beach.
Born in Jonesboro, Arkansas, he was a longtime resident of the coast. He was a Veteran of the US Navy. He served on a patrol boat in the Pacific theater during World War II. He received a World War II Victory Medal, an Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal, a Philippine Liberation Ribbon, and an Honorable Service for serving his country.
He was preceded in death by his parents, W.T. and Ella Dowdy, two brothers, a sister, and a granddaughter.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Jonell Dowdy; his children, Larry Dowdy of Arkadelphia, AR; Peggy Powers of Denver, CO; Tenna Auch of Springfield, MO; Jerry Dowdy of Florence, MS and his wife, Theresa; Allen Dowdy of Lake Village, AR and his wife, Beverly; and Melanie Anderson of Biloxi, MS and her husband, Carlton; twelve grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and a host of family and friends.
He enjoyed the outdoors and spending time with his family. He will be dearly missed and remembered as a loving and caring husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend.
A Visitation will be held Tuesday, September 9, 2008 at RIEMANN FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, 274 Beauvoir Rd, Biloxi, where friends may call from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. A Graveside Service will be held on Wednesday, September 10, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. at Biloxi National Cemetery.
