Jack A. Blackwell, age 71, of Long Beach, passed away Saturday, May 17, 2008 in Sugarland, TX.
Mr. Blackwell spent most of his life on the coast. He graduated from Hammond High School in 1954 and retired Postal Carrier after 25 years. He was a member of Campground Baptist Church and Orange Grove Masonic Lodge #635. Mr. Blackwell enjoyed fishing and hunting. After retirement, he worked at Sam's Club and Academy Sports. After Hurricane Katrina, he worked with the Harrison County crew to help clean up the coast.
Mr. Blackwell is preceded in death by his 1st wife, Judy Clark Blackwell; and his parents, J. Alec and Beulah Blackwell.
Survivors include his wife Gloria Harshbarger Blackwell, of Long Beach; his children, Jeff Blackwell, of Long Beach, Jackie Miles and her husband Rusty, of Birmingham, AL; his step-children, Jeanne Bradley and her husband, Jim, of Pass Christian, Jim Dempsey and his wife, Julie of Hattiesburg, and Jennifer Whitney and her husband Aaron, of Houston, TX; his brother, Paul O'Neal and his wife Allison of Ocean Springs; 8 grandchildren, Jennifer Colwell and her husband, Tom, Sarah Miles, Luke Bradley, Logan Bradley, Jake, Claire, and Andrew Whitney, Lee Dempsey; and 1 great-grandchild, Cathen Colwell.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 21, 2008, from 6:00 PM until 9:00 PM at the RIEMANN FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, 11280 Three Rivers Rd., Gulfport. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, May 22, 2008 at 10:00 AM in the funeral home chapel. Burial will follow at Blackwell Cemetery in Saucier.
