Buck Caruthers was called to his heavenly home on July 15, 2021 surrounded by his family. He was born on Thanksgiving Day, November 28th, 1931 in Portland, Tennessee. He was a member of the Church of Christ and served for over 60 years in numerous capacities including teacher, song leader, Deacon, Educational advisor and Elder. He humbly served with numerous churches in Mississippi and Louisiana throughout his lifetime.
He served his country in the United States Marine Corps during the Korean War. He began his career in Portland, TN with Tennessee Gas Pipeline and worked in a variety of positions including District Superintendent during his 42 years of service.
Throughout his life's journey he was passionate about the importance of educating youth in Biblical principles. He advocated that young adults attend a Christian College. To that end, he was instrumental in establishing a scholarship fund and made the first deposit while encouraging the continued funding of that work.
He was a devoted son, husband to his wife of 63 years, father to his four daughters and their spouses, children and extended family. He was a true friend and mentor to many. He devoted his life to the Lord's work.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Joe H. and Lorena Searcy Caruthers; his wife, Myrtle Maxine Key Caruthers; and siblings, Charles Everett Caruthers and Lucille C. Carter.
Those left to continue his legacy are daughters, Teresa (Les) Heins, Tammy C. Brister, Sandra (Allen) Lane, Melody (Perry) Johnston and Phil Hobdy, who fulfilled the role of son; grandchildren, Lindsey H. Sonnier, Christopher (Jeannette) Heins, L. Bryan (Heather) Brister, Steven (Penny) Keeffe, Joseph A. Brister, Taylor A. Lane, Haley L. Lane, Kayla J. (Davis) Matlock, Krista J. (Christopher) Sykes, and Karlee J. (Phillip) Norman; 8 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild; and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank Dr. Olivia Hightower and staff for their loving care and his nurses and caregivers for the compassion given to him.

Friends are invited to join the family for visitation and services on Saturday, July 24th at Riemann Family Funeral Home, 11280 Three Rivers Road, Gulfport. Visitation will be held from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m., with the Funeral Service to follow in the funeral home chapel.
Buck will be laid to rest on Monday, July 26th at Biloxi National Cemetery at 10:00 a.m. The funeral procession will leave from the funeral home at 9:15 a.m.
