Irwin """"Ray"""" Coons, age 87 and a resident of Long Beach, died on Sunday, February 15, 2009, in Long Beach.
Mr. Coons was a native of Houston, TX and had been a resident of Long Beach for the past 23 years. He served in the Merchant Marines. He was a longtime member of the Southern Star Masonic Lodge in Long Beach, was a member of the Scottish Rite, was a 32nd degree Mason, and was a Joppa Shriner. He was also a member of First United Methodist Church in Long Beach. Mr. Coons lived a very full and extraordinary life in his 87 years.
Mr. Coons is preceded in death by his parents, William Ray Coons, Sr. and Gehla Heye Coons.
He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 60 years, Lillie Belle Coons of Long Beach; his daughter, Cindi (Tim) Ernest of Mandeville, LA; his son, Ken (Jamie) Coons of Houston, TX; his brother, William Ray (Ola Lee) Coons, Jr. of Port Neches, TX; his grandson, Harrison Hunter Coons of Houston, TX and several nephews and nieces.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Saturday, February 21, 2009, at 2:00 p.m. at First United Methodist Church of Long Beach, where friends may visit one hour prior to the service.
The family requests that memorial contributions be made to First United Methodist Church, 208 Pine Street, Long Beach, MS 39560, or to the American Heart Association, 2159 E. Pass Road, Unit A,
