Irvin Louis """"I.L."""" Kelly Jr. age 82, of Biloxi, died Sunday, April 20, 2008 in Biloxi.
Mr. Kelly was born in Philadelphia, MS and had been a resident of Biloxi since 1953. He was a graduate of Edinburg High School, Co - Lin Junior College, and the University of Southern Mississippi with a degree in Journalism. He also attended the University of Mississippi.
Mr. Kelly was a veteran of World War II, where he served in the Pacific Theater with the US Marine Corps fighting on Iwo Jima & Guam.
He retired after 32 years from Keesler Air Force Base, where he was a housing inspector. Mr. Kelly also worked for Grand Casinos as a sign maker. He was a member of the Joppa Temple, a ham radio operator, a volunteer with Star reading program, a Blue Bird Camp counselor, and was active in Biloxi Little Theatre, where he won many awards. His hobbies included studying foreign languages, photography, practicing magic and reading.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Irvin Louis Kelly, Sr. and Naomi (Fortenberry) Kelly.
He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Lany Ruth Kelly, 3 daughters: Terri & Jim Johnson of Hattiesburg, Karen Creel Tiblier & Michael Tiblier of Biloxi, and Shannon Kelly Harpin & Alain Harpin of Biloxi; 9 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; and 7 sisters. A special thanks to the wonderful people at Odyssey Hospice for their kindness and support during the illness of our loved one.
Friends may visit at the family residence on Saturday, April 26, 2008 from 1:00 p.m. until 4:00 pm., with memorial services at 2:00 p.m. Inurnment, with military honors, will at 1:30 p.m., THURSDAY, JULY 17, 2008 in Biloxi National Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family would like donations to the ASPCA 520 8th Ave, 7th Floor, NY, NY 10018, or to Blue Bird Cancer Camp, Attn: Libby Carol, 1414 S. 28th Ave, Hattiesburg, MS 39402. Arrangements by RIEMANN FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, Biloxi.
