Iris Benton Montgomery, age 81, resident of Gulfport, passed away on Wednesday, September 16, 2009, in Gulfport.
Mrs. Montgomery was born in England in 1927 to the late Kenneth and Elsie Benton. She moved to Vicksburg in 1946, married John Montgomery shortly thereafter, and moved with him to Starkville. They later resided in New Orleans where they started their family. She had been a resident of the Coast since 1960. She was a homemaker and former assistant librarian at the Long Beach Public Library. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Long Beach.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband of 59 years, Col. John E. Montgomery, U.S.A.F.R., retired; brothers, Kenneth Benton and Leslie Benton; great grandson, Joey O'Bryan.
She is survived by her children, Kenneth Montgomery of Gulfport and his wife Patricia, Suzette Montgomery Dawson of Albuquerque, NM and her husband Mark; sister, Molly Leake of New Castle, England; 5 grandsons, Verle, Ray, Rocky, Gary, and Steven O'Bryan; 9 great grandchildren and 2 great-great granddaughters.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, September 20, 2009, at RIEMANN FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, 11280 Three Rivers Road, Gulfport, where friends may visit from 4-6 p.m.
Funeral services will be held on Monday at 10 a.m. in the funeral home chapel. Burial will follow at Biloxi National Cemetery.
