Irene Magandy Travis died August 4, 2011 in Biloxi.
She was born at Lake Benton, Minnesota, and at age 3 she moved with her family to Ryder, North Dakota, where she attended school grades 1-8 at Centerville, and grades 9-12 at Ryder High School. She attended business college in Minneapolis, MN and graduated with a medical secretary diploma.
She served in the U.S. Navy WAVES from 1944-1949 and was honorably discharged as a Petty Officer 1st Class.
Mrs. Travis married Oscar E. Travis, a Marine Sgt., on June 13, 1948 at Douglas, North Dakota. She was a grain pricer at Commodity Credit in Minneapolis, and secretary to State Senator Harvey of Buford, South Carolina.
In 1968 they built their home in Biloxi, MS where they remained and started their own business in air conditioning / refrigeration. They were members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Biloxi.
She was preceded in death by her husband, O.E. Travis; her parents, Rufus and Anna Magandy; two sisters, Ethel Schilling and Ruth Becker; three brothers: Elmer Magandy, Roland Magandy, and Donald Magandy; one niece; and several nephews.
Mrs. Travis is survived by her three sisters: Grace H. Jones of Minneapolis, MN, Fern Magandy of Biloxi, and Eunica Volk of Mission Viejo, California; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A Graveside Service, with military honors, will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, August 9, 2011 at Biloxi National Cemetery. Arrangements by RIEMANN FAMILY FH, Biloxi.
