Ida Beatrice Nichols Sheffield, age 95, of Gulfport, passed away on Friday, November 2, 2018.
Mrs. Sheffield was born to Henry Eugene and Cora Bryant Baughman. She moved to Gulfport in 1947 where she raised her family. She was a member of Michael Memorial Baptist Church and Order of the Eastern Star, where she served as Worthy Matron. She worked as a seamstress at Mac Smith Garment Factory before going to work at Sears and finally retiring from Sterling Drugs.
She was preceded in death by her first husband of 36 years, Iris Linward Nichols of Gulfport; her second husband of 31 years, Billy E. Sheffield of Gulfport; her daughter, Faye Simmons of Sevierville, TN; and her siblings, William Baughman of Columbia, MS, Paul Baughman of Starkville, MS, and Mavis Baughman of Tylertown, MS.
She is survived by her children, Jean Altese (Gregg) of Diamondhead, Linny Nichols (Carolyn) of Gulfport; son-in-law, Wayne Simmons of Sevierville, TN; 6 grandchildren, David Simmons (Natalie) of Kentucky, Wes Simmons of Gulfport, Chris Altese (Amy) of Diamondhead, Jennifer Noble (William) of Gulfport, Chad Nichols (Susie) of Gulfport, and Shelly Necaise (Jeff) of Gulfport; 14 great grandchildren and 15 great-great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, November 6, 2018, at RIEMANN FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, 11280 Three Rivers Road, Gulfport, at 2:00 p.m. Visitation will be held one hour prior. Burial will follow services at Evergreen Gardens.
