Jo Hamner left this earth on March 16, 2014; the day of her 90th birthday. She passed peacefully at her home in Gulfport, MS amongst loving family members and beloved friends.
Originally from Terry, Mississippi, she would graduate from Hinds Jr. College, marry Capt. Shepherd L. Hamner, an army pilot, and spend the next 25 years living and travelling throughout the United States and Europe. Because of her love for the gulf coast, the Hamner's settled in Gulfport, where she worked as office manager for
Wilsons and Service Merchandise. A great music lover, she played piano and harmonica and loved family gatherings where spontaneous singing and playing occurred. Essentially a quiet person, she had a wry sense of humor and blossomed when in the presence of family and friends. Her radiant smile and warm heart will be missed by all who knew her.
She is survived by her five sons, Lowry (Terry), Walter, Randy (Roberta), Dale (Debbie), and Jody (Cindy, the 'daughter she never had,') her grandchildren Ashley, Megan, Joseph, Micah Jo, Laura, Lewis, Josh, Cody, and Ariana, many great-grand children, and numerous friends and neighbors, especially James and Jeanie White.
A graveside service will be held at Floral Gardens Cemetery in Gulfport, MS Wednesday at 2:30 PM.
