Hugh Moore, an adored husband, father, grandfather, great- grandfather and friend to everyone he met, entered into eternal rest on February 8, 2025, at the age of 78. Born in Biloxi, Mississippi on September 16, 1946, Hugh's legacy is one for the books. He truly was a local legend.
Educated in the most untraditional of ways, Hugh attended the school of hard knocks. He was a self taught jack of all trades, but truly mastered the art of being a darn good pawpaw.
Hugh spent his life as a contractor who never ever truly retired, as he spent most of his days looking for “jobs” to keep himself occupied because this man truly never rested until now. He loved to eat and bragged endlessly on his lovely wife’s ability to really get the grease to stinkin’ in the kitchen. But don’t let him fool ya, the man could really fry some taters. Hugh made the best French fries his great-grandson Jaxon ever tasted. Hugh enjoyed spending time with Jaxon more than anything in the whole world and even told his family he loved Jaxon more than he ever loved any of them, which they were perfectly okay with. As a man of God, Hugh loved to invite people to church. He would even pick them up if they needed a ride and make sure they had a good lunch afterwards. He was so proud to fill the pew with his family and friends.
He is survived by his loving, but fiesty wife of 59 years, Lela Page Moore, their daughter Eva Moore (Kenneth) Bourque, grand daughter Hillary Anne Bourque-Talbert, great- grandchildren Jaxon Talbert and Lexie Conn, siblings Billie Ann Moore Clements, Tom (Connie) Moore, Barbara Moore Hair, and Keith (Melissa) Moore, along with a host of loving nieces and nephews. Hugh was preceded in death by his father, John Edward Moore, his mother, Lexie Ingram Moore, sister Pansy Marie Grant, brother Steven Darryl Moore, brother-in-law Aubrey Allen Clements, and brother-in-law Dennis Hair.
A visitation will be held on February 14, 2025, from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Gulf Coast Free Will Baptist Church, followed by a Funeral Service at 11:00 AM. A Graveside Service will take place at First Free Church of God Cemetery at 12:00 PM. Friends and family are invited to join in celebrating a life well lived.
And in the words of greatest man who ever lived- “Stop crying. You look ugly when you cry.”
Riemann Family Funeral Home, Gulfport, is honored to serve the Moore family.
