Hugh Robert Blakley, of Long Beach, MS, passed away on Saturday June 4, 2022, surrounded by family.
He is survived by his children, Brenda (Rick), John (Lori), and Robbie (Michelle); Grandchildren, Ricky (Kayla), Blake (John), Emily, Megan (Jacob), Lauren (Andrew), Anthony, Mackenzie, and Haylie; Great grandchildren, Mila, Austin, Cooper, Bryce, and Raelynn; and his puppy “Marlie.”
Preceding him in death was his beloved wife, Barbara; his father, John Blakley, his mother, Bonnie Blakley, and his brother, John Blakley.
He was born on January 22, 1937 to John and Bonnie Blakley in Warren, Ohio. He graduated from Niles McKinley High School where he met the love of his life, his prom queen, and best friend Barbara. Hugh and Barbara married on August 4, 1956. They shared a love and a built a life together that everyone dreams of. They were best friends, and when you thought of one of them you thought of them together; now they are together again.
He loved football, people watching, telling a good joke, teaching his grandchildren the art of cursing tastefully through his “nursery rhymes”, coffee in the morning and in the evening, patrolling the neighborhood like a good cop does, and most of all, spending time with his family. He was our comedian, protector, dad, Papa, and a friend to many. Although we will miss him dearly, we take comfort in knowing his Barbara is back with her “Hughie.”
