Huey P. Long Woodcock, age 88, of Long Beach, passed away on Tuesday, June 11, 2024.
He was born in Gulfport to Clinton Isaac Woodcock and Mamie Sims Woodcock.
He was preceded in death by his sons, Dale Ray Woodcock and Joseph Scott Woodcock, Sr.; his parents; his siblings, Clinton Harold “Jr.” Woodcock, Jr., Kenneth Algin Woodcock, Donald “Jack” Woodcock, Sr., and Millie Christovich; and his niece, Tammy Woodcock.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 68 years, Jacqueline Malley Woodcock; his son, Timmy Woodcock (Denise); his daughter, April Perkins (Tony); his brother, Thomas Houston “Tommy” Woodcock, Sr.; his grandchildren, Monica Allen (Jimmy), Amber Allen (Lance), Mindy Moran (Chip), Stephanie Ladner (Kenric), Jennifer Scarmack, Huey Pierce Long Woodcock, II (Ashley), Joseph Woodcock, Jr. (Samantha), Crockett Woodcock (Kayla), Elisha Jo Woodcock, Misty Harris (Cody), Stephen Anthony “Tony” Perkins, II (Sarah), Dakota Woodcock, Karringten Perkins, Pierce Perkins; his great grandchildren, Arieonna Fox (Austin), Kathan Allen, Shyla Allen, Kyleigh Allen, Kinsey Allen, Kane Allen, Colin Moran, Coltin Moran, Chase Ladner, Keelan Ladner, Paisley Ladner, Sierra Scarmack, Cayden Scarmack, Tyler Myers, Katelyn Myers, Joseph Scott Woodcock, III, Bryce Woodcock, Kalista Woodcock, Tate Woodcock, Tinley Woodcock, Blayton Woodcock, Benson Woodcock, Daxton Woodcock, Carter Harris, Turner Harris; and his great great grandchildren, Austin “A.J.” Fox, Jr., Elizabeth Myers, Nevaeh Myers
Huey retired from Ingalls Shipbuilding after 34 years and began his landscaping business, along with managing his rental properties. He and Jackie were best known for their Woodcock Christmas Display in Long Beach during the 1980’s and 1990’s.
He enjoyed spending time with his family, especially at the Pass Mardi Gras Parades because he loved Pass Christian. He also loved coaching and watching his grandchildren play basketball.
If you asked Huey what the “P” stood for in his name, he would gladly let you know it stood for “Poor”. One of his grandsons was named Pierce after him and said he was 13 before he knew it stood for Pierce.
He was quite a character and will truly be missed by all who knew and loved him.
Visitation will be held from 11:00 am until 1:00 pm on Saturday, June 15, 2024, at Riemann Family Funeral Home, 19130 Commission Road, Long Beach.
Funeral services will follow visitation at 1:00 pm in the funeral home chapel. Entombment will be in Gulf Pines Memorial Gardens.
