Hudson M. Puckett, Sr., age 77, resident of Gulfport, died Friday, July 20, 2007 in Gulfport.
Mr. Puckett was a native of Hattiesburg and attended schools in Hattiesburg and Gulfport. He served with the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II at Guantanamo, Cuba. He later served the Korean Conflict. From 1959-1967, Hudson served as constable with the Harrison County, Mississippi, Sheriff's Office. After his service as constable, he was employed with the Ryan-Walsh Stevedoring Company, Inc., in Gulfport where he became the Supertendent of Dock and Ship Operations until retirement.
Hudson was a past president of the Orange Grove Mississippi Lions Club and has served on the Board of Directors of the Junior Chamber of Commerce. He enjoyed hobbies of hunting, fishing, growing vegetables and sharing with friends and family. Most of all he enjoyed spending time with his family and grandchildren who brought many beautiful smiles to this loving man.
Mr. Puckett was preceded in death by his parents, Jerome and Albertine Puckett; a brother, Jerome """"Jerry"""" Puckett; two sisters, Juanita Mosley and Golden Puckett; his first wife, Jean Randall Puckett; a son, Hudson M. Puckett, Jr; and a grandson, Kai Thrash.
He is survived by his wife, Joan Puckett; two daughters, Kathy Thrash and her husband, Bary, of Perkinston, Lynn Stanbro and her husband, Gene, of Gulfport; three stepdaughters, Kathy Moulton and her husband, Tommy, of Long Beach, Julie Prescott and her husband, Curtis, of Gulfport and Cindy Edwards of Marietta, GA; a brother, Elden """"Biggie"""" Puckett and his wife Nell of Mendenhall; a sister in law, Lilliam Puckett of Gulfport; grandchildren, Wesley Phillips and wife, Sabrina, Ashleigh Helton and husband, Keith, Courtney Savoie and husband, Jean', Markelle McDaniel, Tanner Thrash, Kaycee Vance and husband, Billy Joe, Taylor Thrash, Zennie Moulton, Caleb Prescott and Olivia Prescott; and great grandchildren, Wes, Louis, and Adam Phillips, Chaseigh Rae Moran and Gavin Helton; numerous nieces and nephews.
A visitation will be held on Monday, July 23, 2007 from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM at THE RIEMANN FAMILY'S Riemann Funeral Home, Highway 49 Chapel, Gulfport. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, July 24, 2007 at 1:00 PM at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Gulfport, where friends may visit from Noon to service time. Burial will follow at Floral Hills Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers will be Taylor Thrash, Curtis Prescott, Wesley Phillips, Tanner Thrash, Bryan Puckett, and Keith Helton.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Zennie Moulton, Kaleb Prescott, Gavin Helton, Wes Phillips, Louis Phillips, and Adam Phillips.
Giftbearers will be Olivia Prescott and Chaseigh Moran.
