Howard R. Wood

BUCS, Howard R. Wood “Woody” (US Navy Retired), age 71, passed away on July 18, 2024 in Gulfport.

He was born in Norwalk, Connecticut on May 17, 1953 to Douglas Wood and Margaret Neil Wood. Soon after high school, he enlisted as a Sea Bee in the United States Navy in 1971, serving at the end of the Vietnam Era, and retiring in 1994 at the end of the Gulf War as Builder Senior Chief Petty Officer. During his service he received many decorations and awards, including 2 - National Defense Service Medals, Navy Expeditionary Medal, M16 Expert, .45 Cal. Expert, 2 - Meritorious Unit Commendations, 3 - Navy Achievement Medals, Fleet Marine Force Combat Operations Insignia, Kuwait Liberation Medal, Southwest Asia Service Medal with 2 bronze stars, and many others.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Douglas Wood and Margaret Neil Wood and his brother, David Wood.

He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Patricia Lynn Roane Wood of Biloxi; son, Neal Wood of Biloxi; brothers, Douglas Wood, Tommy Wood, and Scotty Wood; sister-in-law, Margaret; his children from his previous marriage, Bridget Wood, and Billy Wood; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A visitation will be held Tuesday, July 23, 2024 12:00 – 1:00 pm, at Riemann Family Funeral Home, 274 Beauvoir Rd. Biloxi, MS 39532, followed by a graveside service with military honors at 1:30 pm, at Biloxi National Cemetery, 400 Veterans Ave. Biloxi, MS 39531.
