Hollinger (Holly) Louis Morton, Jr., 91, died Oct. 31, 2018, in Gulfport. He was born in Meridian, Miss., the only child of Gladys Shanteau and Hollinger Louis Morton, Sr. He lived his early years in Hattiesburg, Miss., before moving to Gulfport in his mid-teens. He enlisted in the U. S. Navy while a junior in high school, and married Ruby Norton on Oct. 10, 1944. Although he lived most of his adult life in Gulfport, a city and people he loved, he resided at Santa Marie del Mar Apartments in Biloxi before moving to Brookdale Assisted Living Facility in Biloxi. He died in Lakeview Nursing Home.
He is preceded in death by his mother Gladys Shirley and her husband, Olie Shirley, and by his father H.L. Morton, Sr., and by his former wife and mother of his children, Ruby Norton Morton.
He is survived by his children Shirley (Dick) Henderson, Biloxi; H.L. "Bubba" (Ree) Morton, III, Baton Rouge, LA; Frank (Ginny) Morton, Pearl River, LA; Connie (Joe) Ziegler, Gulfport; David (Susan) Morton, Baton Rouge, LA; Mary Ann (Craig) Bounds, Ocean Springs; Patrick (Tammy) Morton, LaPlace, LA; and Paula (Billy) Hewes, Gulfport; and his grandchildren Charlotte Henderson Marcotte, Stephanie Henderson Ritter, Kelly Henderson Englese, Susanne Henderson Chandler, Jon Henderson, Frank Morton, Teri Morton Foster, Tim Morton, Joey Ziegler, Scott Ziegler, Karen Ziegler Smith, Sarah Bounds Robichaux, Conley Bounds; Matthew, Michael and Maggie Morton, Katie Hewes Hood, and Sarah, Gardner and Sam Hewes; and 26 great grandchildren, plus numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
After working for 37 years as a Letter Carrier for the U.S. Postal Service in Gulfport, Holly worked 13 years as a security guard at the Prime Outlet Malls in Gulfport. He also held a variety of positions in the local Letter Carrier Association.
Holly always enjoyed hunting and fishing and contributed to his family's dinner table with his bounty. Holly was also very active in the sports life of his sons and coached the St. John Elementary School Pee Wee Football team for several years as well as helped with the St. John High School team. For many summers, as a second job, he was also employed as a baseball umpire by the Gulfport Recreation Department.
As a convert to Catholicism, Holly was very active at St. John the Evangelist Church and with the Cursillo Movement of South Mississippi for many decades.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 AM, on Saturday, November 10, 2018, at St. John Catholic Church, Gulfport, with a visitation from 10:00 AM until the service.  Interment will follow at Gulf Pines Cemetery, Long Beach.
