Herschell L. (Butch) McQueen, 59, passed away Thursday, November 13, 2008, at home surrounded by his family. He is at peace with the Lord after suffering through a lengthy illness.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Captain H.L. (Mac) and Doris McQueen; one grandson, and Shane Michael McQueen.
Survivors include his wife and soul mate of 17 years Colleen P. McQueen; two daughters, Melinda Murphy and husband Billy, of Biloxi, and Tammy Boaz and husband Trevis, of Kathleen, GA; his son H.L. """"Shane"""" McQueen and wife Tammy, of Biloxi; his sister Linda Bond and husband Louis, of Vancleave, MS; his brother Grady McQueen and wife Janet, of Lumberton, MS; nine grandchildren, three great-grandchildren; two nieces; and one nephew.
Butch was born and raised in Biloxi. He worked with his father, Capt. """"Mac"""" McQueen of the charter boat """"Belvedere"""" for numerous years. He also worked in retail management and owned several restaurants over the years, the last being the """"Olde Towne Bistro"""", in Gulfport. After his illness prevented him from working, he designed and created nautical decorations which include taxidermy working with all types of sea creatures, """"Reel Crabs"""".
He was born to fish and that was his greatest love of all. Butch had a great sense of humor and truly loved his family and just hanging out together. It is really impossible to express how greatly he was loved and will be missed by all of his family and friends.
The family wishes to express their thanks to the staff of Memorial Hospital Hospice for all their devotion and compassion during this tough time. All of our thanks to Dr. Richard Tilley and Dr. Stephanie Fussell who supported us through this period.
In lieu of flowers, an account has been opened at Hancock Bank in the name of Herschell McQueen to assist in the funeral expenses.
