Henry George Sauter, Jr., a retired Deputy Chief with the New Orleans Fire Department, departed this life to be with the Lord on March 28, 2012. He was 85.
Henry ""Joe"" was born in New Orleans, son of the late Henry G. Sauter, Sr. and the late Irene Wells Sauter, and lived in Diamondhead, MS since 1985. He served in the U. S. Army during WW II.
""Joe"" came from a family of firefighters. His father, Henry G Sauter, Sr., retired from the NOFD as well as his brothers, Walter ""Lefty"" Sauter, Sr. (District Fire Chief) and Robert Sauter (Fire Captain). Joe also had two nephews that were members of the NOFD, Walter Sauter, Jr. and Daniel Sauter.
He is survived by his beloved wife Christine Spinato Sauter and brother Robert J. Sauter. He was preceded in death by his sister Mary M. Sauter and his brothers Walter B. Sauter, Sr., and Edward R. Sauter, Sr.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday, April 2, 2012, at 10:00am at the Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Pass Christian, MS, with a visitation to begin at 9:00am. There will also be a memorial service Monday at 3pm in New Orleans at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd, with visitation to precede the memorial service from 1:30pm - 3:00pm. Burial will be in Lake Lawn All Saints Mausoleum.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church (building fund), 9062 Kiln Delisle Rd., Pass Christian MS, 39571.
RIEMANN FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, 9113 Kiln Delisle Rd., Pass Christian assisted the family with arrangements.
