Mr. Henry James Council, Jr., age 81, resident of Gulfport, passed away on Sunday, January 17, 2010, peacefully at his home.
Mr. Council was born and raised in Jacksonville, FL, and entered the United States Air Force at 17 years old. He served 20 years before retiring as SM/Sgt. After his military career, he started his State Farm Insurance Agency in Long Beach and retired in 2000. He enjoyed flying and boating with his family and spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren, whom he adored.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry J. Council, Sr. and Myrtle Bynum Council; and his sister, Camille D'Haillecourt.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Polly Baughman Council of Gulfport; children, Susan Roberts of Pensacola, FL, and Mike Council of Hurley, MS; grandchildren, Scott and Matthew Council of Gulfport; great grandchildren, Taylor Council of Long Beach, Ashley Nix of Gulfport, and Jacob Council of Gulfport.
Visitation will be held from 4 until 6 p.m. on Wednesday, January 20, 2010, at RIEMANN FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, 11280 Three Rivers Road.
