Helena Booker

Helen Carolyn Booker, age 71, of Gulfport, MS, passed away Sunday, June 24, 2018, in her home. She was born on October 28, 1946 in Sumrall, MS to Melvin Clinton and Loleta Warden Clinton.
She was married to her soulmate, Lon E. Booker III, on October 8, 1973 at the state fair in Meridian, MS, by a peg-legged judge. She spent most of her adult life in McGehee, AR in various capacities in the medical field before pursuing her love of cooking and receiving her degree in Culinary Arts from the University of Southern Mississippi in 2003.
She will be remembered most for being a good-loving woman who was very outspoken and utterly determined to have a good time no matter what or where she was. She was fiercely and completely devoted to her family. She could always tell a good story and her tales were always on point with a hilarious dramatic flair. She loved the finer things in life, but according to her she had wine taste on a beer budget. She believed that all ailments could be cured with Methyalade and over the counter medicine, regardless of doctor's recommendations. She could perform any surgery (self-taught) with a butter knife, hemostats, hemorrhoid cream, and, of course, Methyalade. She was also a master in the art of collecting restaurant tableware (whether or no the establishment was aware), a talent inherited from her mother. Overall, she was very passionate about many things; her family above all. She was very kind (until crossed) and never met a stranger. She always left a lasting impression on those that knew her and those lucky enough to meet her. Above all, she would want you to remember to just dance.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Melvin and Loleta Clinton.
She is survived by her husband of 45 years, Lon E. Booker III; 3 children, Scott Booker of Germany, Tony Booker of Dermott, AR and Christina Hicks and husband Phil of Saucier, MS; 6 grandchildren, Emily, Vivian, Austin, Gracie, Mathew, and Bella; a sister, Letitia Jones of Sumrall, MS; and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation services will be held Wednesday, June 27, 2018 at RIEMANN FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, 11280 Three Rivers Road, Gulfport, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM followed by a graveside service at 3:00 PM at the Sanford-Warden Cemetery in Sumrall, MS.
