Helen Mathers Ball McDonald, age 92, of Gulfport, passed away on Saturday, January 24, 2015.
Mrs. McDonald was born in Gulfport to Nicholas and Amelia Joseph Mathers. She was a member of St. Peter's by the Sea Episcopal Church and the Gulfport Yacht Club. She was an avid Bridge player and wonderful homemaker. She was known for her culinary expertise, especially baking sweets. She was a very social person and enjoyed meeting new people and making lifelong friends. She also enjoyed supper Club and church dinners.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Leonard Ball, Jr.; second husband, William McDonald; her sons, Gary Ball and Dr. Leonard D. Ball, III; her parents; her uncle, Michael Mathers; siblings, George N. Mathers and Raymond M. Mathers.
Helen is survived by her daughter, Rebecca LaBrosse of Gulfport; her sister, Dorothy Mathers Myers of Boynton Beach, FL; her grandchildren, Lisa Marie Ball Durlacher (CDR Robet Durlacher, USN) of Vienna, VA, David Ball, Robert Fred LaBrosse, III, Rachael Michelle LaBrosse and her sister-in-law, Anne Mathers of Gulfport; her great-granddaughter, Madeleine Rose Durlacher and a niece and six nephews.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, January 29, 2015, at St. Peter's by the Sea Episcopal Church in the parish hall at 10:00 a.m., and the funeral services will follow at 11:00 a.m. in the church sanctuary. Burial will be at Floral Hills Memorial Gardens.
