Helen Brame, age 90, passed away Friday, October, 12, 2012. Helen met her future husband Lex while attending college at MS. Southern. After their marriage Lex enlisted and upon returning home they settled in Bay Springs, MS where they lived for the entire 50 years of their marriage. Helen began a teaching career at the B.S.H.S. teaching business education for many years. She then served as secretary to the Supt. of Education for Jasper County. She developed an interest in administration and at age 50, went back to college and obtained a Master's Degree in Administration. Helen was then selected to be the new Title One Coordinator for West Jasper County. In this capacity she was responsible for securing grants that funded this government program and for administering the entire program.
After retirement Helen stayed busy caring for her elderly mother, and then her husband, Lex who passed in 1992. In 1996, she moved to Gulfport to be near her children, where she then became a faithful member of Handsboro Baptist Church.
Helen was preceded in death by her parents, James J. Crozier and Jessie Mel Pearce Crozier; her husband of 50 years, Lex Brame, Jr.; her grandson, Michael Mixon; and her daughter-in-law, Sue Brame.
Survivors include her daughter, Jeanne Brame Pullis and husband Ed of Gulfport; son, Lex Brame III of Gulfport; grandson, James Anthony Brame and wife Amy of Magnolia, Texas; granddaughter, Bridget Lockwood and husband Neil of Hewitt, Texas and their children Brinlee and Trey.
The family would like to extend sincere thanks to Barbara Fillingame, a beloved friend and caregiver to Helen for the last several years of her life. She was truly like a daughter. Also, appreciation is due to the recent caregivers who have spent many hours caring for Helen, Rose Alexander and Mia Mingo and to Camellia Hospice for their compassion and expert services.
To honor Helen's deceased grandson, in lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions made to the Gulf Coast Community Foundation, Michael Mixon Scholarship Fund, 11975 Seaway Road, Suite B-150, Gulfport, MS 39503.
Services for Helen will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, October 16 at RIEMANN FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, 11280 Three Rivers Road in Gulfport, where friends may visit from 10:00 until 11:00 a.m.
The Graveside Service will be at 4:00 p.m., Tuesday, at Bay Springs Cemetery in Bay Springs, MS.
