Harry Hartfield, age 67 of Long Beach, went to meet his mother in Heaven with arms stretched out waiting on him on February 3, 2015.
Although doctors didn't think he would live a full life with Down Syndrome, he defied the odds and lived a very full life. Most of his life was spent at the South MS Regional Center where he lived and loved everyone. If you ever met Harry, you certainly fell in love with him and he made you give him a quarter or two for a Coca Cola. No one stood between Harry and his cokes or his combs as these two items were his favorites. His favorite living place at the center was the Mockingbird Cottage until his health started failing and he had to be moved to a safer cottage that was more one on one with patients.
Other than his mother, Betty Hartfield, he was preceded in death by his brother, Keevon Hartfield and his grandparents, Aries & Vera Scarborough and Mr. & Mrs. J.P. Hartfield.
Harry is survived by his brothers, Tommy (Sherry) Hartfield and Ricky (Pam) Hartfield of Alabama; his aunt, Margie Gentile; his uncle, J.D. Scarborough; his favorite cousin, Jimmy (Donna) Gentile and numerous other cousins, nieces, nephews, caregivers, and friends.
A memorial service will be held at a later date when decided by the family.
Riemann Family Funeral Home, 19130 Commission Road in Long Beach, served the family.
