May 30, 1941 — January 20, 2023

Long Beach

Harry Eldon Dawson, Sr., age 81 and long time resident of Long Beach, MS, passed away on January 20, 2023, in his home surrounded by his family.  Mr. Harry, as he was known by his family and friends, has now rejoined his beloved bride, Lois Ann Holliday Dawson in Heaven. He passed away in the home he and his wife had built in 1986.  Mr. Harry was born in Ecorse, MI, and later moved to Atlanta where he met his lovely bride at the Varsity. Before he passed, he used to love to tell anyone who listened that he still remembered the parking lot where they met.  Six weeks after that fateful meeting, they were married.  Mr. Dawson served in the United States Army as a lineman with sharpshooter status.

After his stint in the military, Harry apprenticed with his father-in-law as a mechanic.  Mr. Dawson was a hard worker and a fast learner.  He obtained an associate's degree from Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College.  He worked at the Gulfport Veteran's Center in Gulfport on small motors and engines.  There he was the Handicapped Employee for two years in a row.  He retired as the age of 56.  During retirement, he loved to work on leather crafts like purses, knife cases, wallets, gun holsters, and belts.  Harry was also an active member of Trinity Pentecostal Tabernacle, Long Beach, MS, on Beatline Road.  He was a member of the Breakfast Club that meets every morning at Wards on Railroad Street in Long Beach.  Harry always had a joke or a smile for anyone who was blessed to come across his path.

Mr. Harry is preceded in death by his mother, Beatrice; his father, John; his sister, Doris Casebolt; and the love of his life, Lois Ann Holliday Dawson. He is survived by his brother, Richard Dawson; his children, Teresa Ann Dawson, Lois Marie Dawson Ritson, and Harry Eldon Dawson, Jr.; his son-in-law, Scott Lee Ritson and his daughter-in-law, Dawn Johnston Dawson; and finally his two grand children, Mellyssa Lynne Ritson and Aaron Thomas Dawson.

In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting any and all memorial contributions to be delivered to the church, Trinity Pentecostal Tabernacle, Long Beach. The Celebration of his live will be February 4, 2023 from 4-6 PM at the church.

Riemann Family Funeral Home, Long Beach, served the family.
