Mrs. Harriett aÌ‚â‚Å“Hattieâ₝ Broadus, 102, went to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on April 15, 2009, after a brief illness.
Born in 1907 in Perkinston, Mississippi, Hattie first came to Gulfport in 1930 to work at the old Edgewater Resort Hotel where she established many lifelong friendships. Shortly after arrival she joined the Gulfport First Baptist Church and remained an active and dedicated member for the rest of her life.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Maxie M. Broadus, a former Harrison County Sheriff, her parents Henry and Elaine Rogers, and brothers, Hobson, Huston, Haston, Harvey, and Willie Rogers.
She is survived by a son, Jimmy W. Broadus, and wife Georgia, of Raleigh, North Carolina; granddaughters, Julia Serio, and husband Michael, and Tracy Buckingham, and husband Warren, of the St. Petersburg, Florida area; great grandchildren, Stephanie Croft, and husband Michael, Taylor Serio, Kayla Buckingham, and Cody Buckingham; and numerous neices and nephews.
Throughout her life Hattie was blessed by having an extended family of caring friends and relatives who brought her a tremendous amount of joy and happiness. She especially appreciated the devotion of her niece, Frances Cobb, and husband Joe Cobb, who were loyal friends, devoted companions, and around-the-clock caregivers for the past several years.
Visitation will be held on Friday, April 17, 2009, from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM at the RIEMANN FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, 11280 Three Rivers Rd., Gulfport
The funeral service will be held on Saturday, April 18, 2009, at 11:00 AM in the funeral home chapel. Burial will follow at Evergreen Cemetery in Gulfport.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the First Baptist Church of Gulfport, or the Broadmoor Baptist Church.
