Harold Joseph “Joby” DeMetz, Jr. passed away in Pass Christian, Mississippi, the evening of Sunday, July 10, 2022 at the age of 59 years old.

Joby was born in New Orleans, Louisiana, on July 3, 1963.  He graduated from Long Beach High School in 1981.  He served in the United States Army and was honorably discharged in 1985.  Joby attended the University of Southern Mississippi and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in 2000.

Joby is survived by his children, Nick DeMetz and Katie DeMetz Coats (Alex); his mother, Marie DeMetz McGee; his sisters, Donna Alleman (Iris), Jennifer Zambrano (Alirio), and Sheryl Moore (Chip); his nephews and nieces, Jarrod and Madeline Alleman, Alexandra Zambrano Forseth (Kiefer), Gabriella Zambrano Hill (Mickey), and Vanessa Zambrano, Margot Moore Dutel (Travis), Mac and Zachary Moore; his great nephews and nieces, Iris and Olivia Hill, and Niall Dutel; the mother of his children, Kim DeMetz Previto (James); and a large extended family. He is preceded in death by his father, Harold Joseph DeMetz, Sr. and his niece, Claire Alleman.

Joby lived life to the fullest – unreservedly and proudly blazing his own trail. He enjoyed camping, canoeing, and exploring, especially on his beloved Wolf River. He loved live music, shooting pool, and catching up with friends, old and new. His loved ones will always remember the wacky yet endearing nicknames that he bestowed upon his family and friends. “Cornbread,” “Hashbrown,” “Guh’port,” and many others will never forget the happy memories and adventures shared with him. Joby will be greatly missed, especially by his children “Freddy” and “Lilly.”

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 am on Saturday, July 16, 2022 at Holy Family Parish in Pass Christian, Mississippi. Visiting hours are from 9:00 – 10:00 a.m.  Per his wishes, there will be no graveside service as his ashes will be scattered at a later date.
