Mr. Harold Ernest (aÌâÅSonnyaÌâ) Wilson of San Miguel de Allende, GTO. Mexico died Saturday, December 29, 2007.
Sonny was born September 12, 1939, in Gulfport, MS, to Beatrice Brown Wilson and Harold Ernest Wilson, Sr. He was a graduate of Tulane University in New Orleans. Sonny was a resident of the Gulf Coast for fifty years. He was active in St. Thomas Parish in Long Beach and was a lifetime member in the Long Beach Carnival Association of which he was king, ball captain, and a member of several courts over the years. He also served as President of the Carnival Association for a term. He worked with his father in their construction company business, H. E. Wilson Contracting for twenty-seven years before owning and operating The Shoe Tree and The Strawberry Patch in Long Beach for twenty-two years. After closing the businesses on the Coast, he moved to New Orleans where he taught Special Education in the Jefferson Parish School System for fifteen years. Upon his retirement, he moved to San Miguel de Allende where he enjoyed the richness of the Mexican culture and people for the past two years. He was active in the local parish church and enjoying traveling the country meeting new people. He enjoyed reading, traveling, and cooking. He continued to pursue his lifelong passion of genealogy and was a member of the Sons of the American Revolution and the Sons of the Confederacy. His greatest pleasure in life was spending time with his family and friends.
Sonny was preceded in death by both of his parents. He is survived by his companion and friend, James H. (Jim ) Baker, his son, Hal Wilson of Texas, daughter, Jane Wilson Sullivan and her husband, Michael of Cumming, GA; 2 granddaughters, Sarah Elizabeth (Sarah Beth )Sullivan and Angela Jane (A.J.) Wilson, and one grandson, Michael Neill Sullivan.
The family will receive friends at RIEMANN FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, 19130 Commission Road in Long Beach Thursday, January 3, 2008 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. with a rosary service at 7:30 p.m.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday, January 4, 2007 at St. Thomas Catholic Church at 11:30 a.m. Interment will be at Long Beach City Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Vincent de Paul School or the Rebuild St. Thomas fund, P.O. Box 1529 Long Beach, MS 39560.
