Master Chief Harold W. Valder, age 75, of Gulfport, passed away on May 9, 2014 in Gulfport.
He is survived by his loving wife of 41 years, Mercedes Valder of Gulfport; his children, Desiree Valder Thompson and Vicky Valder, both of Charlotte, NC, Deborah Abbott of Yuma, AZ, Holly Valder of Gulfport, and Ronald Valder and Cindy Valder, both of New York; a brother, George Valder (Bonnie) and a sister, Shirley Magar, both of Rochester, NY; seven grandchildren, Brittani Valder, Landon Jackson, Ethan Harriel, Ashley Harriel, Evan Valder, Aidan Abbott, and Brennan Abbott; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A Vietnam War veteran, he served in the U.S. Navy for 30 years and retired as a Master Chief. He was a faithful servant of his country. While in the military, he received a Master's Degree in Engineering.
He loved coaching his daughters' softball teams and was a loving husband, father, and grandfather who never met a stranger.
A funeral service with military honors will be held on Tuesday, May 13, 2014 at 4:00 PM at the RIEMANN FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, 11280 Three Rivers Rd, Gulfport with a visitation for family and friends from 3:00 PM until the service. Burial will be held at Biloxi National Cemetery at a later date.
