Mr. Harold Grant Preble, Jr., age 82, of Diamondhead, passed away on Thursday, November 21, 2024, at his home.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Emmie and Harold Preble, Sr., and his sister, Marcia Preble.
Harold is survived by his wife of 58 years, Janice Preble; his children, Elizabeth Huffmaster (Richard), and Leah Holmes (Michael); brother, Clayton Preble (Christine); and his grandchildren, Justin Huffmaster and Jerald Huffmaster, along with his nephews and nieces, Adam, Glenn, and Scott Preble; Maggie Munn, Josie Thomas, and Tré Buie.
Harold was a native of Savannah, Georgia, who resided in Diamondhead. He became an Eagle Scout in 1960 and earned a bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering from Georgia Tech in 1964, where he was also a member of the Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity. He then earned a master’s degree in chemical engineering from LSU in 1969. He was employed at DuPont Chemicals, LaPlace, Louisiana, from 1969 to 1979 and then at DuPont Chemicals in DeLisle, Mississippi, from 1979 to 2000, when he retired. After retirement, Harold worked as a private engineering consultant from 2000 to 2010.
He enjoyed traveling to Europe, especially Italy, bicycling, the church choir, restoring two MG convertibles, golf, scuba diving, and woodworking. Harold was a part of numerous environmental and conservation organizations and held various professional awards and accolades.
The family would like to extend deep gratitude to the Diamondhead Fire Department, Deaconess Home Care of Gulfport, and numerous others for their support and services.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Harold’s honor to Trinity Church Live Oak Cemetery Tree Renewal Initiative, 125 Church Avenue, Pass Christian, Mississippi 39571, the Sierra Club, or the National Audubon Society.
The family will receive friends beginning at 10:00 AM on Monday, December 2, 2024, at Trinity Episcopal Church. The funeral service will follow at 11:00 AM. Interment will be at 12:30 PM at Live Oak Cemetery.
