Dr. Hansel James Janet passed from this life on January 24, 2021 in Gulfport, Mississippi.
Dr. Janet was born on November 15, 1929 in Evangeline Parish, Louisiana, to Robert Janet and Frances Janet. Dr. Janet practiced internal medicine in Gulfport for over forty (40) years. A graduate from Northwestern State College in Natchitoches, Louisiana, and L.S.U. Medical School, Dr. Janet was a member of the prestigious Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society. Dr. Janet served as a Resident in Medicine at Charity Hospital in New Orleans, Louisiana, from 1959 to 1962. Dr. Janet also served in the Korean War.
Dr. Janet helped countless people through his practice, and through Alcoholics Anonymous. Known for his incredible wit and humor, Dr. Janet was also famous for his cooking, especially his shrimp stew. Dr. Janet was a faithful member of St. James Parish in Gulfport for over four (4) decades.
Dr. Janet is survived by his lifelong friend, Dr. Marvin Liberto, and his spiritually adopted children, Gina Lynn Strickland, Geoffrey Bedford Strickland, Taylor Word Strickland, Christian Janet Strickland, Emily Benfatti Strickland, and Christian and Emily’s children. One of Dr. Janet’s favorite scriptures comes from Psalm 42: “I will go in to the altar of God, to God who gives joy to my youth.”
