Dr. Halil Ozerden, age 66, a long-time resident of Gulfport, died in his home Friday, August 18, 2006.
He is survived by his wife,Candace Brannon Ozerden and their two children, Emile Ozerden Gottschlich and Halil Suleyman Ozerden, Esq. He is also survived by his daughter-in-law, Denise Dunaway-Ozerden and four grandchildren, Austin and Ava Gottschlich and Vivian and Harty Ozerden, all of Gulfport.
Dr. Ozerden was preceded in death by his parents, Cemile and Suleyman Ozerden of
Adana, Turkey, and five siblings. He is survived by his brother, Ibrahim Ozerden, of Frankfurt, Germany, as well as many sisters/brothers-in-law and nieces and nephews.
Dr. Ozerden was an Associate Professor Emeritus of Psychology at The University of Southern Mississippi-Gulf Park and a practicing licensed clinical psychologist. He was born in Tarsus, Turkey and immigrated to America in 1963. He became a naturalized U.S. citizen in 1971.
He attended St.PeteraÌ‚â‚â„¢s by the Sea Episcopal Church, though he continued his Islam faith. He was a member of the Rotary Club of Gulfport and the Gulfport Yacht Club. He was also a member of numerous professional organizations at the state, regional and national levels.
Visitation will be held Saturday, August 19th at 6:00 p.m. at Gulf Coast Funeral Homes, Inc. located at 11280 Three Rivers Road, Gulfport. Funeral Services will be held Sunday, August 20th at 2:00 p.m. at Handsboro Presbyterian Church located at 1304 E. Pass Road in Gulfport. Following the service, the committal will take place at Floral Hills Cemetery in Gulfport.
