Guy Clay Sr, age 92, of Gulfport, MS, departed with the angels on December 15, 2021.
Guy was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great and great-great-grandfather. He enjoyed working in his yard, church, and at an earlier time, golfing with family and friends, and traveling with Virginia.
He was preceded in death by his son, Gary A. Clay; his loving wife of 65 years, Virginia L. Clay; his parents, Sam and Beulah Clay; and five siblings, Sam Jr., Ted and Jamie Clay, Blanche Clark and Dot Irvin.
He is survived by his son, Guy Clay Jr. (Susie); four grandchildren, Jared (Laura) Clay, Shelby Clay (Kendon), Brianne (Stephen) Pryor, and Nathan Clay (Kristine); 6 great-grandchildren, Cooper and Carter Clay, Morgan (Wesley) Mechatto, Landon Fielder, Jaxin Clay, Lennon Clay, and another great-granddaughter due in January (Kenlee); one great-great-grandson, Keaten Mechatto; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Guy Clay Sr. was born in Meridian, MS, lived in Hattiesburg, MS until his marriage in 1951, then settled in Gulfport, MS. He served in the Korean War and upon returning worked in various professions until he founded Clay’s Office Supply, located in downtown Gulfport. Both of his sons became a part of the business, Gary with the office supply and Guy with Clay’s Print Shop. Guy Sr. retired in 1992 and the business later merged as Sun Coast/Clay’s Office Supply.
Guy Sr. was a devoted longtime member of Grace Memorial Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon for many years.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Grace Memorial Baptist Church or the Humane Society of South MS.
Visitation will be on Monday, December 20, 2021, from 10 – 11 am at Grace Memorial Baptist Church. The funeral service will be held at 11 am in the chapel. Interment will be in Floral Hills Memorial gardens.
