Graeme M. Ton, Jr., 82, of Gulfport, MS, and a resident of Lakeland, TN, passed away peacefully Monday, January 25, 2010 at Germantown Methodist Hospital.
He was preceded in death by his wife Betty Lois Overton Ton, mother and father, Graeme and Grace Ton, and brother, James Ton.
The New Orleans native was the son of the late Graeme M. Ton, Sr. and Grace Barthelemy Ton. He graduated high school from Gulf Coast Military Academy and served in the U. S. Coast Guard during WWII as a Merchant Marine. After WWII, he received his Bachelors degree from Tulane University and worked for IBM as one of their top sales executives in Washington DC and New Orleans, LA. Later in life he ran a successful paper currency (numismatics) business and established himself as one of the premier dealers in the country.
An avid sportsman, he enjoyed watching college and professional football (the Saints) with both family and friends. Earlier in life he enjoyed fishing, boating, and traveling.
He was a member of Mississippi and Tennessee American Legion, the American Numismatic Association, and the Society of Paper Money Collectors.
Survivors include his brother Aristide (Yvonne) Ton of Shreveport, LA and his four sons Graeme (Beth) Ton, III of Port Angeles, WA, Greg (Babs) Ton of Oxford, MS., Gary (Dawn) Ton of Lakeland TN, and Gwaine (Debbie) Ton of Franklin, TN; ten grandchildren, Colby (Laura) Ton, Jordan Ton, Jenny Ton, Julie (Tim) Henry, Crystal (George) Mitzner, Katie Ton, Steven Ton, Kristen Ton, Morgan Ton, and Brittney Ton; four great-grandchildren, Dillon and Connor Ton, Jack Mitzner, and Sydney Ton.
Funeral services will be conducted Monday, February 1, 2010 at 10:15a.m. Visitation and services will be held from 9 to 10:15 am at the RIEMANN FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, 274 Beauvoir Rd., Biloxi, MS 39531, with burial services being held at 11 am at the Biloxi National Cemetery, 400 Veterans Avenue, Biloxi, MS, 39531.
