It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Gordon Wayne Wegener from Humboldt, Iowa, who left us at the Armed Forces Retirement Home, Gulfport, Mississippi, on February 28th. 2021.
Gordon had been a resident of the home for the past 10 years and will be sadly missed
Gordon began life on a farm outside of Lone Rock, Iowa on September 2nd, 1926. The third of four children to Hilda and Fred Wegener. In his early years, he worked on the farm, and also at the family café, additionally working alongside his carpenter Father. He attended school in Lone Rock and Swea City, Iowa.
Later in life he joined the Navy. The year, 1944. Two years later, he was discharged before joining the United states Air Force, where he served for 22 years until his discharge in 1969. In February 1954 he married Beverly Ann Lewis, after which, they settled into military life, raising three children, Kristy, Brian and Scott on the way.
On retirement, they settled in Humboldt where Gordon worked for Sears as a service man and then, became a maintance man for the North Care Center, where he spent his time repairing small appliances. He also loved woodworking and was proud to be a committee member of the local Ducks Unlimited.
Gordon was preceded in death by his sisters Vuanita, Neoma, wife Beverly and son Brian. He is survived by his brother Dale Wegener of Buckeye, Az. Daughter Kristy, son Scott, and Grandchildren, Melissa, Reese, Jack and Beth.
Interment will be at the Iowa Veterans Military Cemetery in Van Meter Iowa, March 31st at 12:30. The Family asks that in lieu of flowers donations to the charity of your own choice is preferred.
There will a fellowship gathering at the Van Meter VFW Hall .
