Glenn R. Slote, 78, of Biloxi, died Friday, October 26, 2007 in New Orleans, Louisiana.
Born in St. Petersburg, Florida, Mr. Slote was a long-time resident of Biloxi. An Air Force Veteran of 26 years' service, Mr. Slote was stationed at Barksdale AFB, Louisiana; MacDill AFB, Florida; Lockbourne AFB, Ohio; Misawa, Japan; and Keesler AFB, serving during both the Korean and Vietnam Wars, and retired as a Senior Master Sergeant. He was awarded the Bronze Star for Meritorious Service, June 28, 1970.
Following his military career, Mr. Slote was an instructor at Jefferson Davis Community College for 18 years, having received a Bachelor's Degree from the University of Southern Mississippi. After his second retirement, Mr. Slote volunteered at Keesler AFB Medical Center, Chaplain's Office.
He was a much loved member of Sunkist Country Club, the men's SUNGO golfing group, and served on the Board of Directors for two terms.
Mr. Slote is survived by his wife of 53 years, Louise; two sons, Stephen (Christine) of Mandeville, Louisiana, and Jeff (Pamela) of Kingwood, Texas; grandchildren, Kolbe, Kelsey and Cameron; brother, Lorin Eichelberger of Plainfield, Illinois; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Horace and Ann Slote; brother, Vincent Slote; and sister, Lois Starrett.
Mass of Christian Burial for Mr. Slote will be held at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church, Biloxi, at 1:30 p.m., Wednesday, October 31, 2007 where friends may visit one hour prior. Interment with military honors will follow at Biloxi National Cemetery at 2:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Vincent de Paul Society.
