Glenda Lewis

October 26, 1941 — June 3, 2022

Gulfport

Glenda Goodwin Lewis of Gulfport, MS passed away peacefully surrounded by her loved ones on June 3, 2022.   Glenda was born in Newton, MS on October 26, 1941, to John and Alene Goodwin.  She was the baby of the family and was proud to hold that title.

Glenda worked proudly for South Central Bell telephone company for 42 years and retired in 2002.

Glenda is survived by her loving husband of 59 years, Leon Lewis. The two of them built a life full of love, joy, and happiness.  They have 2 children who she loved and adored, Kelly Lewis Smith (Brian Smith) of Brandon, MS and Shannon Lewis (Amy Shaw Lewis) of Houma, LA.  Glenda loved her family unconditionally.  Especially her 6 grandchildren of whom she was so very proud, Brady Smith (Emilie Hearn Smith), Graham Smith, Lake Lewis, Lyle Lewis, Layton Lewis, and Lorel Lewis.

Glenda never met a stranger.  She could often make a connection of how she knew someone and how they may be related.  She was a walking GPS and the family historian.  There wasn’t a road or town in the south, especially Mississippi that she didn’t know.  She could tell you every family member, and to whom they belonged.  She was truly the connecting factor for her family.  Wherever she was everyone else was as well, and there was surely a big meal as she loved to cook and serve people.

Glenda had 5 siblings of whom she loved so very much, Doris Richardson, James Goodwin, Baby Billy Goodwin, Peggy Petty, and Teddy Goodwin.  She also loved her numerous nieces and nephews and would tell you quickly that she considered them her children also and that she helped raise them.   She will be so dearly missed and will forever hold a place in the hearts of those that knew her.  Her family would like to thank everyone who prayed, called and cared for Glenda during her hard-fought battle with cancer.  Especially dear friends Debbie and Clay Justice, Phylis Shaw, New Hope Baptist Church, Pastor Matt Sachitano, Dr Allison Wall and staff, Dr Rod Krentel and staff, Dr. Lynn Leatherwood and staff, St Joseph Hospice, and the numerous nurses and staff that cared and loved on their mother during her battle.

Visitation will be held at Riemann Funeral Home on Three Rivers Road in Gulfport on Tuesday June 7th from 10:00am-12:00pm with Funeral service immediately following. Burial will follow in Floral Hills Cemetery.  Pallbearers for Glenda will be Brady Smith, Graham Smith, Lake Lewis, Joey Mitchell, Clay Justice and Eddie Dear.  Honorary Ball Bearer, Layton Lewis.
