Gertie Charlotte McCoy Jones

Gertie Charlotte McCoy Jones, 89 of Gulfport, Mississippi passed from this earth on May 15, 2024 and is now in the loving arms of her Lord and Savior.  Gertie was born on October 21, 1934, to the late George Washington and Ida Myrtle Cooper McCoy in Gadsden, Alabama.  Later in life, she moved to Gulfport, Mississippi and retired from H&R Block.  She used her tax preparing career to volunteer for the AARP in assisting people with their taxes.  She was also a proud member of Fernwood Baptist Church.  

Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John T. Jones, Jr; stepmother Alma Bynum McCoy; grandchildren, Terri Michelle Ervin and Steven Alan Freeman; siblings, Joseph Leon McCoy, Billie Wilson McCoy, Fred Woodson McCoy, DeWitt McCoy, Harry Carson McCoy, Hazel McCoy Ware, and Mildred June McCoy.

Survivors include her children, Linda Faye Thomas (Douglas) and John Thomas Jones III (Shari); grandchildren, Thomas Allen Jones (Makayla) and Kayleigh Lynn Jones; great grandchildren, Stephanie Lyn Freeman, Kyros Vincent Ervin, and Kyra Michelle Irvin; and sister, Nell Ruth McCoy Helms.  

A memorial service will be held at 3 PM Saturday, May 18^th at Fernwood Baptist Church with Ray Duplessie officiating.  Interment will be at Crestwood Cemetery in Gadsden, Alabama.

The family would like to thank the caregivers at One Magnolia Assisted Living and Arden for the care and assistance.
