Gerrit DeVries

Gerrit DeVries, age 80, a resident of Gulfport, passed away on Thursday, November 24, 2011.
Gerrit was preceded in death by his first wife, Frances DeVries; his parents, Bert and Frances DeVries; and 3 brothers.
Survivors include his wife, Jo Barnes DeVries; children, Jeff DeVries (Joan) and Anita DeVries; Step-daughter, Shannon Beard (Lyndon); step-son, Scott Barnes (Quin); brother, Jim DeVries (Jenny); grandchildren, Tina Willis, Joe Forehond, Sylvia Ladner, Christi Beard and Max Barnes; and 8 great-grandchildren. Gerrit was a beloved husband, father, and grand-father.
Gerrit was a native of Michigan and had served in the U.S. Navy for 21 years. He worked for 26 years as a supply boat captain. Gerrit was a member of Cowan Road Baptist Church, VFW Post in Gulfport and American Legion Post 119.
Visitation will be on Monday, November 28, 2011, from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at RIEMANN FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, 11280 Three Rivers Road, Gulfport . The funeral service will be held Tuesday, November 29, 2011 at 12:15 p.m. at Cowan Road Baptist Church, where friends may visit one hour prior. Burial with full military honors will follow at Biloxi National Cemetery.
