Gerald Young

Gerald L. "Buster" Young, age 72, of Long Beach, passed away on May 7, 2017.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Burrell and Allyne Young; his siblings, Burrell C. Young, Jr, Sandra Young Morgan, and Ann Lingle.
Survivors include his wife, Connie Allen Young; his children, Wendy Smith Cioffi (Hal), Missy Smith Dedeaux, and Leanne Smith Dempsey (Howard); his grandchildren, Lexi Smith, Angelle Mitchell, Colby Hartford, Brennon Dempsey, and Jonathan Dempsey; a great-grandson, Asher Hartford; numerous other relatives and friends.
Mr. Young graduated from Petal High School in 1962 and later graduated from University of Southern Mississippi. He served in Army Reserve and went to work for Hancock Bank and then served as Vice-President of Merchants Bank. He later worked and retired from the Treasury Department as an examiner. He was a member of St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church and was an active member of the Carnival Association of Long Beach where he served as Grand Duke in 1993.
He was known as "Bubba" to his family and many friends. He enjoyed being outdoors and spending time with his family.
Visitation will be on Friday, May 12, 2017, from 10 am - 1 pm at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church, 720 East Beach Blvd, Long Beach. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1 pm in the church. Interment will be in Gulf Pines Memorial Gardens.
