Gerald (Jerry) Taylor, age 79, of Long Beach, released his spirit into the arms of the Lord on February 20, 2015 in Long Beach, MS.
Gerald is preceded in death by his parents and three brothers.
He is survived by his wife, Fredde of Long Beach; son, Gary of Long Beach; daughter, Valerie of Jackson; granddaughters, Jordan, Lakelyn, and Gracyn of Long Beach.
The ""Coach"" was a longtime resident, teacher, coach, and friend of Long Beach from 1962 until his peaceful passing. He loved his family dearly by providing for and participating in all aspects of Family Life. Coaching, teaching, and school administration from 1962-1988 were highlights of his career. All students and athletes that he guided held a special place in his heart.
He enjoyed playing softball, fishing, taking family trips, babysitting his granddaughters, and of course being in a 57 year marriage with his best friend and first love, Fredde Mincher Taylor.
Coach Taylor grew up playing football and attending school in Columbia, MS prior to attending the University of Southern Mississippi on a 4 year football scholarship. He was inducted into the USM Athletic ""Hall of Fame"" in 2010.
He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Long Beach where he enjoyed being on the Usher Committee and also working as the maintenance supervisor.
Gerald will be remembered for his love of others, community leader, friend to the Long Beach School System, and dedicated Father and Husband. He will be sorely missed!
Friends and family are invited to celebrate Gerald's special life at a visitation to be held Wednesday, Feb. 25, 2015, from 1:00 PM until 3:00 PM followed by a funeral service at 3:00 PM at the First United Methodist Church of Long Beach. A graveside service with military honors at the Long Beach City Cemetery will follow.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Research Center, 196 Charmant Drive, Suite 4, Ridgeland, MS 39157.
RIEMANN FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, 19130 Commission Rd, Long Beach is in charge of arrangements.
