Gerald Richard Rossi, "Jerry", passed away on Wednesday, April 15, 2020 while visiting Biloxi, MS at the age of 74. Wherever Jerry went, laughter followed. Though things have been a bit quieter since he said goodbye, his big heart and endearing ways have left an indelible mark on those who loved him.
A lifelong Syracuse resident, Jerry enjoyed serving his community. Whether it was with the 121st Light Infantry Brigade during the Vietnam War, as a decades-long member of the Lyncourt Volunteer Fire Department, a Little League coach, TeenTimers chaperone or by simply serving up a plate of his famed baked ziti, Jerry was always there when you needed him.
He appreciated the simple things - naps with his dogs Izzy and Louie, leftovers, veteran’s discounts, playing cards with his daughter-in-law, “My Maddie” and flannel pajama pants. Jerry was a storyteller of epic proportions who thrived on bringing friends and strangers alike into his world. And what a wild and wonderful world it was!
Coming from a large, Northside Italian family, Jerry leaves behind his mother, Rose Ann Rossi of Liverpool, brothers John (Ticia) Rossi, James (Carolyn) Rossi, sisters Donna (John) Gravante, Jeannie Glenny, and Kathy (Alan) West and numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. He was predeceased by his father, John Rossi and sister, Karen Rossi.
The world is a bit upside down right now but when this ends, Jerry’s wife of 45-years, Deborah (Zacharek) Rossi, his daughter Ashley Rossi (Ryan) McInerney and his son David (Madison) Rossi invite family and friends to join them in celebrating his life as he would have. Jerry’s family will share the date for celebration once it has been confirmed.
