Gerald E. Gartman, Sr. age 72, resident of Saucier, died on Tuesday, March 18, 2008, in Gulfport.
Mr. Gartman was born in Saucier to the late James E. and Bessie Scarborough Gartman. He lived his life on the Coast and retired from Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College after serving 33 years as director of the vocational college. He also directed and wrote the manual for the first Manpower Skill Center in the Southeast Region. He was a member of Success Baptist Church and the Orange Grove Camp of Gideons International. He will be lovingly remembered as a very caring and unique person who enjoyed fishing, gardening, and working. Mr. Gartman always shared his garden successes with family and friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents; sister, Trisha Ann Peterman; and an infant son.
He is survived by his children, Diane Johnson of Wiggins, and her husband William, Donna E. Googe of Vancleave, and her husband Hank, Libbie Scarbrough of Gulfport, and her husband Dean, Virginia G. McDaniel of Saucier, and her husband Barry, and Gerald E. Gartman, Jr. of Saucier, and his wife, Melissa; siblings, Larry Gartman of Ocean Springs, and his wife Besty, Cecil Gartman of Saucier, and his wife Allita, and Danny Ray Gartman of Saucier, and his wife Diane; grandchildren, Parker McDaniel, Ann Middleton, Henry Googe, III, Christina Copus, William Johnson, II, Rebecca Johnson, Jennie McDaniel, Lee McDaniel, Alexandra Scarbrough, and Lane Gartman; 4 great grandchildren.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, March 20, 2008, at RIEMANN FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, 11280 Three Rivers Road, Gulfport, where friends may visit from 6-9pm.
Funeral services will be held on Good Friday, March 21, 2008, at 10am in the funeral home chapel, with burial following at Rouse Cemetery.
