Gerald """"Jerry"""" Dion, age 73 of Long Beach, MS, passed away Sunday, November 29, 2009, in Gulfport.
He was born in Grand Rapids, MI December 8, 1935. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and a friend to many. He served in the United States Air Force from 1954 - 1958. He worked for General Electric Company in the Heavy Military Division for 32 years; 25 of those years were at Ingalls (Northrup Gruman) Shipyard, Pascagoula, MS. He was an avid golfer, and after retirement worked at Mississippi National Golf Course in Gautier, MS. He also enjoyed working with the Gautier family making their famous MayHaw Jelly for several years.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Muerita Dion; father, Leslie H. Dion; and stepmother, Maria Dion. Survivors include his wife of 47 years, Ann Dion; daughters, Cheryl (Michael) Magandy, of Long Beach, MS; and Lynda (Steven) Tiefel, of Tallahassee, FL; son, James (Niccole) Dion, of Cocoa, FL; foster daughter, Tanya McFadyen, of Tarpon Springs, FL; grandchildren, Matthew, Tyler, Ian, Noah, Jack, and William Magandy; Kyle Smith, Amber Dion, Cody Rubin, Kathryn and Emma Dion; and great-granddaughter, Austyn Dion Manasco; siblings, Ronald (Pat) Dion, of Spring, TX; and Jane (Larry) Peters, of Lambertville, MI.
Visitation is from 6:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m tonight, Tuesday, December 1, 2009, at the RIEMANN FAMILY FUNERAL HOME CHAPEL, 19130 Commission Rd., Long Beach. Recitation of the Rosary will be at 7:00 p.m. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, December 2, at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church, 5557 Daugherty Road in Long Beach.
In lieu of flowers, the family prefers donations be made to the St. Thomas Catholic Church Rebuilding Fund, P.O. Box 1529, Long Beach, MS 39560.
The family would like to express appreciation to Dr. Davidson and the nurses in the clinic and on 3B at Memorial Hospital of Gulfport.
