Georgia Bridges

Georgia D. Bridges, 94, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Thursday, May 11, 2017 in Pensacola FL. She was under nursing care and the care of her youngest children Mark and Linda.
Georgia was born Oct 12, 1922 in Champaign, IL to Dan and Ruth Semmons and was a resident of the Pass Christian since 1964. She is predeceased by her parents, sister Jane, and husband of 30 years, William D. Bridges. Georgia joined the Army Nurse Corp during WWII and served two terms of service and was a devout Baptist attending the First Baptist church in P.C. for many years.
Georgia is survived by her sister Mary "Tetsa" Mabray, brother Chris Semmons, and her four children: Ruth Harper (Rick), Preston Bridges (Doris), Mark Bridges, Linda Collins, four grandchildren: Gina LaVoie (David), Eric and Nick Collins and Michael Harper, and three great grand children.
Georgia was born and raised in Champaign, IL where she attended nursing school at the University of Illinois. She joined the war effort with the Army Nurse Corp where she met her husband, a USAF pilot, William "Bill" Bridges in 1945. They travelled extensively with the USAF, having children in the Philippines, Wisconsin, and Alaska. When Bill retired from the Air Force, they settled in Pass Christian, MS to raise their children.
Mom enjoyed sewing, crossword puzzles, quilting, bowling, reading, and Jeopardy. She lived a good long life, survived WWII, cancer (twice), rebounded from Camille and Katrina, and lived independently until the age of 93.
An informal graveside service honoring Georgia will be held at Gulf Pines Memorial Gardens, Long Beach at 9 AM on Wednesday, 31 May 2017.
