George Leon Young

George Leon Young, age 80 of Long Beach, went to be with Jesus on Friday, September 17, 2010.
He was born in New Boston, Ohio, on December 4, 1929. He was a Korean War Veteran, serving in the U.S. Army. He was a founding father and member of Gulf Coast Worship Center, where he served as deacon on the executive board. He was also a deacon on the executive board at Gulfport Assembly of God for several prior years.
He worked at General Motors in Dayton, Ohio for ten years. In 1961, he worked at North American Aviation, Rockwell International, and NASA in California and Mississippi. He retired in 1985. He also worked at Ingalls Shipbuilding in Pascagoula for several years. Mr. Young was a recipient of numerous awards for his accomplishments in all of these jobs.
In 1999, he received a heart transplant at Ochsner's in New Orleans. We thank God for these extra years and a special gratitude to our donor's family for this special gift.
Mr. Young is preceeded in death by his parents, one brother, and a grandson, Bryan K. Young II.
He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 56 years, Clara; his three sons, Rickey, Mark, and Bryan, all of Long Beach; his seven grandsons, Mark II, of Ohio, Daniel of California, Derek, Joshua, Timothy, Mason, and Walker, of Long Beach; his great grandaughter, Emily; one sister, and three brothers.
Visitation will be held on Monday, September 20, 2010, from 6pm-8pm at the Riemann Family Funeral Home, 19130 Commission Road in Long Beach.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Tuesday, September 21, 2010, at 10am in the funeral home chapel. Interment will follow at Long Beach City Cemetery, with military honors.
