George B. Underwood

George B. Underwood, passed away on Thursday, June 23, 2011 at Garden Park Hospital in Gulfport, MS.
He was born in Oil City, PA on May 7, 1940, and lived in Yuma, AZ and Memphis, TN before settling in Diamondhead, MS in 1977. He dearly loved his community and passionately sought to ensure its prosperity. George was a former member of the U.S. Marine Corps and founder of Louisiana Packaging Corporation. He was an avid golfer, fisherman, pilot, and adventurer. He traveled both the U.S. and Europe but his favorite excursions were cruises with family and friends.
He was the beloved husband of Jinky Underwood. He was the loving father of David (Lauren) Underwood, Doug Underwood, and Donnie (Lisa) Underwood. He was a devoted grandfather to Michael, Rachael, Jake, and Julia Underwood. He is also survived by his sister, Diane (Carter) Green; his mother-in-law, Jane Dean Sohm; his sisters-in-law, Kathy (Bob) Farmer, Sarah (Tim) Strong, and his brother-in-law, Joe Sohm. He leaves a host of nephews and nieces. He will be greatly missed by his family and the many friends he leaves behind.
Relatives and friends of the family are invited to a celebration of his life at St. Thomas Episcopal Church in Diamondhead on Monday, June 27, 2011, at 11:00am. There will be a time of gathering for family and friends thirty minutes prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the Hancock County Food Pantry, P.O. Box 4313, Bay St. Louis, MS 39521.
Riemann Family Funeral Home, 9113 Kiln Delisle Road in Pass Christian, MS, assisted the family with arrangements.
