George "Rusty" G. Trowbridge, III

On Tuesday, July 30th, George “Rusty” Trowbridge III went to join his beloved wife in Heaven. Born June 15, 1944, Rusty passed while in the loving embrace of his big sister.

Rusty leaves behind three grieving daughters, Kim and her husband Paul Austin, their four children Fischer, India, Libby and Brooks, and their partners Taylor, Brandon and Stewart; Middle daughter Jennifer and her husband Ted Stewart, and children Pheobe and Cobi; and youngest daughter, Amy, her husband Greg Jones, and their son, Gregor. Rusty also leaves behind his two great-grandchildren, Wesley and Rosie, who were his greatest joy this past year.

Rusty is also survived by his brother, Terry Trowbridge and his sister, Virginia “Jinky” Eidson, and his four beloved nieces: Betsy, Conree, Ashley and Tiana. 

Mourning Rusty most of all is his little furry companion, Chewy, who accompanied Rusty everywhere in the almost-three years since Jerrie’s death.

Rusty was an avid boater and a not-so-great fisherman, although he never gave up trying. He spent most weekends of his life where he loved it the most: in a boat. He and Jerrie travelled the world and enjoyed many adventures. Even in his grief, he carried on the adventures in Jerrie’s memory: He had a trip planned to Alaska next month and a cruise planned next April. 

Rusty always wanted to be surrounded by family and said over and over again, when all together, how much he loved having family around. Family wasn’t just blood to him, which was good, because there were always a multitude of friends around that he considered family too.

His 52 year love story with Jerrie was something to be envied. They were truly soul mates and when Jerrie became ill, he became her caregiver. He took such good care of her and her every need. Since her passing, he missed her desperately. In fact, part of his last words included, “I have made my peace with God, I am ready to go be with Jerrie.”

Rusty deserves a tribute full of happy stories, great memories, but this job was left to Kim, who is too numb to write anything more than the basic facts. He will be missed so much . His daughters are still in shock, and although adults, have not yet figured out to navigate life without their parents, who were their rock.

Visitation will be on Monday, August 5, 2024, from 5 - 7 pm at the Riemann Family Funeral Home, 19130 Commission Road, Long Beach. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 am on Tuesday, August 6, 2024, at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church, 720 E Beach Blvd, Long Beach. Visitation will be from 10 - 11 am in the church.
