George Harris Krug, Sr., age 85 and a resident of Long Beach, MS died on Thursday, October 30, 2008 in Gulfport.
Mr. Krug was born in Birmingham, AL. He was a WWII veteran of the US Army, and served in the reserves after active duty. He graduated from Auburn University with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. After graduation he worked at Westinghouse in Pittsburgh, PA, on the first nuclear submarine. Later, he worked for Boeing, on the B52 conversions. He also worked at NASA in Huntsville, AL and John C. Stennis Space Center, as well as the NCBC Navel Construction, in technical support. Mr. Krug's hobbies included model steam engines, raising camellias and working in the yard.
He is preceded in death by his parents Emmerson and Dorsey Krug, and his sister Louise Watkins.
Mr. Krug is survived by his wife of 50 years, Dolores Parker Krug; his children, Karen Griffis (Neal) of Hattiesburg, Phyllis Krug of Hunstville, AL, George H. Krug, Jr. (JoAnn) of Port St. Lucie, FL, Garrett Krug (Sandra) of Myakka, FL, and Brian Krug of Gulfport; a brother, Emmerson Krug, Jr. (Barbara) of Texas; grandchildren, Amber Griffis, and Brittany Griffis of Hattiesburg, and Joey Krug of Port St. Lucie; step-grandchildren, Diana and Amanda Krug of Florida.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, November 2, 2008 from 5p.m. until 7p.m. at RIEMANN FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, 19130 Commission Rd., Long Beach. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1p.m. on Monday, November 3, 2008 at St. Thomas Catholic Church, Long Beach. Burial will follow in Biloxi National Cemetery.
